Pure Force “The Beginning”
Friday, January 6, 2006
By IKF
& ISCF Representatives Pete &
Pam Peterson: The first Friday night of the new
year, found Pure Force “The
Beginning” rocking Tinley Park, Illinois, USA
with a night of sensational IKF
kickboxing and ISCF MMA
matches!
HCExtreme promoters, Ron
Hill, James Hill, and Brian Thompson began 2006 with a BANG!
ALL 13 fights were nothing short of awesome! I have seen many,
many events, and this one was right up there with the best of
them. Great job guys!!
- IKF
Kickboxing, Full Contact Rules, Super Middleweight Division
Greg Johnson (0-4,
6’1”, 172, 29, 8/13/76, HCX Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL,
815-855-8155) VS Scott Bresnahan
(1-1, 5’10”, 167, 27, 8/1/78, Mark Caruso, Romeoville
IL 815-372-3555)
Johnson opened up round one pressing the action
forward. He was throwing wild hooks but landing them. Both
fighters were kicking actively and had no problems filling
their requirements. Johnson landed a few hard shots
forcing IKF referee, Al
Wichgers, to give Bresnahan a standing 8 count.
In round two, Bresnahan turned the table on Johnson,
giving him a standing 8 and by the end of the round, Johnson's
tank had run empty. Bresnahan took advantage of the
position and continued to score. This fight was stopped at the
end of Round Two.
Bresnahan won by TKO.
- ISCF
MMA Light Heavyweight Division
Joshua Langer (0-1,
6’1”, 185, 24, 1/7/81, Independent, Chicago IL
773-856-0845) VS Tony Everett
(1-0, 6’1”, 205, 38, 3/15/67,Self, Round Lake Beach IL,
630-544-7759)
Everett shot in and took Langer down early in
round one and quickly had him in a choke but Langer was
wiry and escaped. They were at a stalemate on the ground so ISCF
referee Al Wichgers stood them back up. Both fighters
were very active during this round, and the end of the round
gave Everett another chance as Langer tried
ending the fight with a “Ground & Pound” from
the mount position.
Round two gave the excited crowd a little stand up action
before Everett scored the takedown. Everett got Langer
in his guard and locked on an arm bar, forcing Langer
to tap out.
Everett won by submission at 1:49 of
round 2.
- IKF
Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Super Welterweight Division
Nam Do (1-1, 5’10”,
153, 23, 01/20/82, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria IL 309-657-6787)
VS Matt Determan (1-0,
5’9”, 154, 21, 12/1/84, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn Center MN
(763) 560-5696)
Round One saw both fighters hesitant at first, feeling the
other out. Determan opened with two very strong front
kicks, and Do answered back with a well executed 6
count combo. The rest of the round was non-stop with Do
a little busier and scoring more.
In round two, Determan turned it around with constant
forward pressure. Both fighters looked awesome; great display
of Muay Thai skills! Determan scored a solid kick to
the head which seemed to daze Do, but did Do
came back strong, not requiring any count from the ref.
Round three was more of the same. Determan proved to be
a little stronger then Do and landed several knees and
hard kicks. Do still fired off 6 count combos, but Determan
was the stronger fighter this match.
Determan won by unanimous decision,
29-28, 30-27, 29-28.
- IKF
Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Featherweight Division
Kyle Dietrich (1-5,
5’8”, 127, 17, 9/11/88, Pekin Martial Arts, Pekin IL)
VS Chad Monyelle (17-4,
5’7”, 123, 16, 11/8/89, Craig Monyelle, Beloit WI,
815-389-8501)
Great fight! Dietrich was looking to even the score
with Monyelle this night! Dietrich came out the
first round connecting flying jump kicks and following them up
with jabs and crosses, but Monyelle wasn't going to
stand toe to toe. Monyelle pulled Dietrich into
a clinch several times, unloading knees to the body and legs. Monyelle's
knees won him this round of Muay Thai on the judges cards.
In round two, Monyelle was trying to make sure and not
leave it up to the judges. Landing a spinning back kick to the
body of Dietrich should have affected Dietrich,
but Dietrich kept coming and continued to pressure Monyelle
with busy hands and foot combos. Dietrich evened the
scorecards with this round.
Round three told the tale. Both fighters continued to exchange
punches and kicks until Monyelle, seeing an opening,
scored two unanswered spinning back fists, one of them forcing
a standing 8 count on Dietrich,
cementing the win of this fight. 29-27, 29-27, 29-27.
Note: I have seen Dietrich
fight three times now, and each time he has fought either
older or far more experienced opponents. Don't let the record
fool you, this kid is going to go far, he has great potential
and doesn't know the meaning of the word “quit”.
- ISCF
MMA, Welterweight Division
Leo Perez (1-10,
6’0”, 170, 27, 4/21/78, Charles Wilson, Plainfield IL
815-609-9173) VS Adam Kelso
(3-0, 5’10”, 170, 21, 1/30/84, Don Richard, Holly MI,
248-240-1045)
Both fighters went back and forth on the ground in this
battle. Perez had Kelso in a triangle choke and
an ankle lock two different times, only to have Kelso
reverse each time. This was great action, as both fighters
exchanged attempts at various submissions, but at 3:52 minutes
of round one,
Kelso won by submission as Perez
tapped out.
- IKF
Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Women's Welterweight Division
Lisa Dzik (0-2,
5’7”, 145, 26, 5/3/79, Self/Brian Strick, Madison Heights
MI, 248-259-7030) VS Katie Young
(1-0, 5’9”, 149, 20, 9/15/85, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn
Center MN (763) 560-5696)
Dzik and Young both went after each other right
away. Dzik had quick hands and flurried well, but Young
was too powerful. Young pressed forward landing heavy
hands and hard kicks throughout the round, not giving Dzik
a chance to answer.
Round two was much of the same. Young landed several
more punches and a solid kick to Dzik's head, resulting
in a standing 8 count for Dzik. After the 8 count, Dzik
acknowledged she was done and IKF
referee, Al Wichgers, stopped the bout.
Young won by TKO at .49 of round two.
- ISCF
MMA, Welterweight Division
LaQuinn Swift (1-0,
5’8”, 160, 20, 1/17/85, Joseph Billups, Chicago IL,
973-272-1275) VS Darren Matthews
(2-2, 5’7”, 167, 18, 1/8/87, Bryce Franck, Rockford IL
815-754-2099)
Matthews went for the take down right away but Swift
reversed it once they hit the ground and ended up in Matthews
guard. Matthews had Swift in a guillotine choke,
a triangle choke, and an arm bar as various times throughout
the round and Swift escaped all three, ending the round
with a body slam on Matthews.
Round two the action was just as intense. Very fast paced and
exciting! Swift was deducted one point for throwing a
knee to the head, which isn't allowed under the rules of the
Illinois Athletic Commission. Round three gave fight fans a
little more stand up action and Matthews landed a kick
to Swift's face, bloodying his nose. At the end of
round three, all three judges saw the fight as a draw and it
went into a fourth round, much to the pleasure of the crowd!
Swift went to work fast in round four and got Matthews
back. He unloaded numerous head and body punches.
Swift controlled position the
majority of this round and earned a unanimous decision 38-37,
38-37, 38-37.

controlled the round with solid head kicks, and 6 count punch

In round two, nothing changed. Riordan landed a couple
of punches to Lyons head before being overwhelmed by Lyon's
constant pressure. Riordan received a standing 8 count
in this round.
The last round was again, controlled by Lyon's great
ring generalship. Riordan began dropping his hands to
taunt Lyons, and Lyons continued to score and

Wilson, Plainfield IL, 815-439-8510)
This bout ended fairly quickly. Wilson managed to get
control of Weitzel's back and throw several hard
punches and palm strikes to Weitzel's head and body.
One of them caused an eye injury The ring doctor stopped the
fight at 1:17 of round one after examining Weitzel's
eye.
Wilson won by TKO.
- ISCF

Willis (3-3, 6’1”, 173, 22, 8/1/83, Don
Richard, Holly MI, 248-240-1045)
Willis didn't waste any time this fight. Willis
took Reed down and unloaded a barrage of hands almost
as quickly as the round started. The Ground and Pound tactics
proved victorious as Reed tapped out at 1:49 minutes
into the round,
Leaving Willis the winner.
- IKF
Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Light Cruiserweight Division
Bryan Kovar (4-2,
6’0”, 186, 23, 1/11/82, Ricardo Perez, Rolingbrook IL,
630-640-2686) VS David Eustice
(2-0, 6’3”, 185, 22, 5/25/83, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn
Center MN (763) 560-5696)
Eustice had a reach over Kovar which boosted the
confidence of Eustice and make Kovar a bit
hesitant to unload. Both fighters threw combos and solid leg
kicks. Eustice controlled most of round one, but Kovar
got in the last word with a solid head kick.
Round two was in favor of Kovar as he came out more
prepared. He landed several head kicks and decent combos.
Wow, round three was non-stop exchanges. Kovar landed
another head kick, but Eustice dominated in the clinch
with solid knees.
In the end, Eustice won a split
decision 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.
- ISCF
MMA, Middleweight Division
Ross Grady (1-2,

815-436-1199)
This was another quick fight. Grady scored the takedown
and began to set up Tondini for the arm bar and a
couple of exchanges later, he got it.
Grady won by tap out at 1:11 of round
one.
- MAIN EVENT: ISCF
Pro MMA, Middleweight Division
Billy Stamp (6-4,
6’1”, 170, 26, 5/16/79, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria IL,
39-657-6787) VS Andre Garcia
(1-3, 5’9”, 170, 25, 4/16/80, Don Richard, Holly MI,
248-240-1045)
Stamp proved to have superior ring generalship both
standing up and on the ground. Stamp landed several leg
kicks and punches before Garcia shot in for the single
leg. Stamp reversed position. Both fighters attempted
submissions and when Stamp was in the position to
strike, he made sure to take advantage of it.
Both rounds one and two went to Stamp as he controlled
the tempo, landed more shots, and continued to advance
position.
In round three, Stamp must have known he was ahead,
because it he seemed to coast and not advance, rather he held Garcia
in his guard nearly the entire round. This round went to Garcia.
Stamp was right and won an unanimous
decision over Garcia, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

The
Standoff IV Results
November
18, 2005 Bolingbrook, Illinois, USA
IKF
Illinois, USA by IKF Representative
Pete Peterson: For the fourth time in 6
months, the trio of Ron Hill, James Hill, and Brian
Thompson did an outstanding job of promoting kickboxing in the
Chicago area!! The Standoff IV, - "Bullseye",
brought Illinois martial arts fans an enjoyable night of action with
a mixture of IKF Kickboxing
bouts and Jiu-jitsu and MMA demonstrations.
- The show opened with a Junior Muay Thai exhibition pitting 6
year old Ryan King against 8
year old Derek Wright. WOW!
What an exciting opener! Both boys are trained by HCX Mixed
Martial Arts Instructors Ron and James Hill
and Brian Thompson and they had the crowd cheering their
nonstop energy!
- Second bout for the night was a grappling exhibition (with
Gi) by Jorge Barraza and
Ramon Sandoval. Both men
showed a high level of skill and gave the room a quick schooling
of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
- The Third bout introduced two junior lady grapplers, both HCX
Mixed Martial Arts Students. Liliana
Pecina and Cassy Edler
showed the ground skills of seasoned veterans. Between this bout
and the exciting junior boys opening exhibition, HCX Mixed
Martial Arts has proven they are building a very impressive
junior competition team!
- Junior MTR Lightweight Division
Robert Miranda of
Streamwood, IL, USA, (2-0, 129, 5'5", 16, 2-27-89, Tim
Tokaez) vs. Kyle Dietrich
of Pekin IL, USA, (1-3, 124, 5'8", 17, 9-1-88, Pekin
Martial Arts.)
Round 1: Miranda came out very aggressive, almost
brawling with heavy hands but Dietrich, while "back
pedaling" the majority of the round, managed to counter
with jabs and lead hooks quite effectively. Miranda
landed solid knees in the clinch to finish the round in the
lead.
Round 2: Miranda continued to push the tempo but Dietrich
remained effective with counter punches and landed several tiips
(Front kicks) setting the score to even on the judges
score cards.
Round 3: Both fighters came out wanting to call this
round theirs. The determination was evident leaving both
fighters to finish the round under pure heart. Miranda
was able to force IKF
referee, Al Wichgers, to administer a standing 8 count to
Dietrich. This cinched the win for Miranda by
unanimous decision 29-27, 29-27, 29-27.
- Bouts 5 & 6 gave the sellout crowd in Bolingbrook, IL an
energizing exhibition of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Stan
Hong (HCX Mixed Martial Arts) and Andrew
Cernicenko (Team Toro)
- MMA Demonstration of Stan Hong
and Ross Grady, both trained
by HCX Mixed Martial Arts.
- Next a Muay Thai exhibition between James
Lyons of Peoria IL, USA, (5-0, 163, 5'11",
23, 2-13-82, Peoria Athletic Club) and Omar
Perez of Chicago IL, USA, (0-0, 143, 6'1",
25, 7-22-80, Independent). Omar, an experienced
amateur boxer with a boxing record of 8-2, made his debut in
Muay Thai. The experienced and undefeated Lyons
controlled the tempo and exhibited tremendous standup skill. This
was an exhibition and not scored.
- MTR Super Welterweight Division
Dan Downs of Milwaukee WI,
USA, (0-1, 149, 6', 19, 4-8-86, Duke Roufus Gym) vs. Jason
Skow of Decatur IL, USA, (3-1, 151, 5'7", 21,
9-5-84, Team Bragg).
This was definitely an exciting fight to watch with non-stop
action!
Round 1: Skow pressured his opponent with slamming inside
leg kicks and heavy hands. The 5" height advantage of Downes
allowed him to control Skow in the clinch and score
knees, but for every knee thrown, Skow answered with hard
body shots.
Round 2: This round was similar to the first with Downes
clinching to work Skow's body with knees, but they didn't
seem to damage Skow as he picked up the rhythm of Downes'
knees and began to throw body shots after each blocked knee.
When not in the clinch, Skow was relentless with leg
kicks and hooks to the body and head.
Round 3: This round was a repeat of round two as Skow
continued to punish Downes' body and head with leg kicks
and punches while Downes' continued to use his height to
pull Skow into the clinch to throw knees to his
midsection. In the end, Skow won by a majority decision,
28-29, 30-27, 30-27.
- FCR Super Middleweight Division
Rob Morrow of Joliet IL,
USA, (1-0, 172, 6',2-1/2", 20, 9-3-83, HCX Mixed Martial
Arts) vs. Scott Bresnahan
of Romeoville, IL, USA, (0-1, 166, 5'10", 27, 8-1-78).
By the cheers that went up at introductions of Morrow and
Bresnahan, it was obvious the support of these two local
fighters is what brought a high percentage of the crowd!
Round 1: Both fighters came out strong and anxious to
show their skill. Neither had any problem getting their required
kicks in. Bresnahan seemed to have the stronger punches
as he scored a standing 8 against Morrow.
Round 2: Morrow gained his composure during the rest
period and answered back scoring a standing 8 against Bresnahan.
Round 3: Both fighters were showing signs of fatigue in
this round. Morrow kept his hands up and continued to
press the action, while Bresnahan let his hands stay at
his sides and seemed to "wait for the round to end".
Morrow won by unanimous decision, 28-27, 28-26, 28-27.
- Main Event: MTR Super Heavyweight
Division
Greg Tudor of Peoria IL,
USA, (0-1, 281, Age 39, 2-11-66, Peoria Athletic Club)
vs. Terry Brown of Hanover
Park, IL, USA, (2-1, 225, 30, 9-1-75, Independent).
Round 1: I could have sworn there was an earthquake in
Bolingbrook when these two men began to rumble with over 500
pounds in the ring! The ring began to shake and move with every
punch and kick thrown. This first round was pretty even with Brown
appearing to edge Tudor in the judge's eyes.
Round 2: Brown began to turn it up a notch and was able
to score more then Tudor.
Round 3: Brown let fatigue set in as he dropped his hands
but Tudor was also worn down and was only able to land a
few shots on Brown. Brown won a unanimous decision,
30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

The
Standoff III- Joilet
Illinois
Saturday, October
22nd, the promoting trio of Ron Hill, James Hill, and
Brian Thompson, once again brought
Chicago
area fight fans a great action packed night of kickboxing.
The HCX trio brought The Standoff III to a new location from
the last, and plan to move again for The Standoff IV.
I believe they are on a very successful track to spreading
the excitement of IKF Kickboxing to many, many more future fans, as
well as introducing new kickboxing talent along with seasoned
fighters, to the
Chicago
area. Keep up the great work guys!! Here are the fight results:
Bout
1
International
Rules, Super lightweight
Jay “Bundy”
Gould, (0-3,
St. Cloud
MN
) vs Rob Menigoz (4-1, Olympic Arena Martial Arts,
Manteno
IL
). Round one started
off slowly with each fighter being a little cautious.
Menigoz turned it up in round two, bringing the fight to
Gould. Round three had
the crowd roaring as Menigoz landed a solid head kick.
Menigoz won by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-28, 30-27)
Bout
2
Muay Thai Rules,
Bantamweight
Miquel “Too
Slick” Cruz (2-0, Team Toro,
Hinsdale
IL
) vs. Dylan Newbury (1-1,
Peoria
Athletic Club,
Peoria
IL
). WOW! If these two 13 yr olds are the future of our sport, we are
in for an awesome future! Both
boys came out to show the crowd why they were there! Newbury
pushed the action forward while Cruz landed several well placed
knees. The entire three
rounds, Cruz and Newbury punished one another with every weapon from
their arsenals, bringing a great show to the crowd and a tough
decision to the judges. Cruz
won by majority decision. (29-28, 29-29, 29-28)
Bout
3
Muay Thai Rules,
Super Welterweight
Gamy Pascual (1-0,
Aiki Training Hall,
Skokie
IL
) vs. Matine Silverwolf (1-2, Olympic Arena Martial Arts,
Manteno
IL
). This was another
crowd pleaser as Pascual landed several hard leg kicks to
Silverwolf’s lead leg. The
impact of the kicks could be heard in the furthest corners of the
room! Silverwolf
answered those kicks with several straight punches, hitting Pascual
square each time. By
round three, Pascual’s face was showing signs of Silverwolf's
straight shots connecting with their target.
This was another close fight. Both men put it all out in the
ring, true warriors, going full throttle right up until the bell
sounded ending the third round. Pascual
edged by Silverwolf to win by majority decision (29-29, 29-28,
30-28)
Bout
4
Muay Thai rules,
Super Middleweight
Paul Schroyer (2-0,
Tiger Pit Muay Thai,
Toledo
OH
) vs. Talha Alfayadh (0-1, Nihlans Muay Thai,
Urbana
IL
). This fight was all
Schroyer. Throughout
this fight, Alfayadh went airborne several times attempting flying
front kicks but failed to keep his hands up.
Schroyer stayed patient and timed his right cross to connect
with Alfayadh in mid air.
In the first round, Schroyer’s cross sent Alfayadh
stumbling causing, IKF Referee, Al Wichgers, to give Alfayadh a
standing 8 count. In
round two, Schroyer connected several staggering right crosses,
knocking Alfayadh soundly onto the floor of the ring, bringing
another 8 count. Round
three gave the fans more of the same, with blood trickling from
Alfayadh’s nose. Alfayadh
went down yet again from Schroyer’s powerful right cross.
Al Wichgers stopped the fight at
1:49
of round three.
Bout
5
Exhibition
This was a
non-scored exhibition in the light middleweight division.
Ben Yelle and Zach Tennison both fought the night before in
Milwaukee
but were game for this exhibition.
The more experienced Yelle was a class act as he let Tennison
push the tempo and forced him to work and improve his game.
Bout
6
Muay Thai Rules.
Super Welterweight
Ben Fisher (0-3,
Tiger Pit Muay Thai,
Toledo
OH
) vs. Dennis Ho (2-0,
Peoria
Athletic Club,
Peoria
IL
). Fisher seemed to
overwhelm Ho at times in round one with his skilled knees.
Both men were very active, with a lot of crowd pleasing
exchanges, however Fisher appeared to be the more dominate.
Round two saw Ho pulling his game together and throwing more
accurate punches while Fisher was starting to show signs of tiring.
Conditioning proved to be the determining factor in this
bout, as Ho still appeared “fresh” in round three and able
to score more then Fisher. Ho
won a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Bout
7
Muay Thai Rules
Super Middleweight
Phil Plowden (1-0,
Marius Dan,
Chicago
IL
) vs. Muhammed Elhafy (0-2, Nihlans Muay Thai,
Urbana
IL
). This was a great
fight! In both rounds
one and two, Plowden was in control in the clinch with his knee
play, while Elhafy dominated outside using his reach advantage to
deliver direct, straight punches.
Round three began with Plowden snapping Elhafy’s head
sideways with a solid roundkick.
Elhafy’s conditioning was winning this round, as Plowden
seemed to be tiring quickly, but after Plowden threw a knee that
dazed Elhafy, Powden was able to steal the victory when IKF Ref, Al
Wichgers, gave a standing 8 to Elhafy.
Each judge saw the fight a bit differently, scoring a split
decision for Plowden. (29-28,
29-28, 28-29)
Bout
8
Muay Thai Rules,
Light Cruiserweight
Bryan
“Smashing Machine” Kovar (3-1, Team Toro,
Hinsdale
IL
) vs. Greg Johnson (0-3, Independent, Chicago).
Kovar came out with combos right away dazing Johnson to the
point of a standing 8. Johnson
came back with a jumping kick, but Kovar wasn’t impressed.
He answered with his hands, again rocking Johnson.
As Johnson’s body was starting to sag from the pounding,
Kovar connected to his head with a hard roundkick, knocking him
down, bringing roars of approval from the crowd.
Johnson beat the count, but was still staggering as IKF Ref,
Al Wichgers asked him to step forward, the fight was stopped
at
1:16
of round one giving Kovar the victory by TKO.
Bout
9
Muay Thai Rules.
Super Welterweight, Main Event
2005 IKF North
American Champion James “Little Jimmy” Bleau (12-4,
Marquette
MI
) vs. IKF 15th ranked Tim Riordan (4-4, Madison WI).
Round one opened with Riordan throwing hard hands and
aggressing well, but Bleau was too polished and technical.
His experience definitely showed as he dominated in the
clinch. In Round two,
Bleau hit Riordan with smashing leg kicks, one slipping into the
groin, causing Riordan to take time to recover.
He came back out to finish the round but showed signs of
fatigue from the pounding Bleau delivered.
Bleau was a class act. At
one point, he backed off and asked Riordan if he was alright.
Great sportsmanship! In
round three, Bleau continued with thundering forward pressure and
clean technique. After
2 hard kicks to Riordan’s head, IKF Ref, Al Wichgers, called the
fight. Bleau won by TKO
at
1:45
of round three. But let
it be known, Riordan has a huge heart!
He does not know the word “quit”! Awesome display of
courage and heart!
Well this was
another incredible IKF event, produced by Ron Hill, James Hill,
and Brian Thompson. I’m
looking forward to The Standoff IV on November 18th!
I encourage everyone in the area to make a point to attend a
Standoff event! The
Joliet
trio definitely knows how to put on a A+++ show with well matched
fights and entertainment along with paying attention to all of the
details to make their events VERY enjoyable for fighters and
spectators!
On
a side note: IKF Referee, Al Wichgers, was great!
He was on hand, the night before refereeing this event, in
Milwaukee
WI
for the Colosseum Returns and refereed 19 bouts.
Great Job Al! Announcer
Skye Drysdale, as always, was thorough, professional, and
entertaining as he gave the die hard fight fans periodic updates on
the first game of the World Series which included
Chicago
’s homeboys, The White Sox.

IKF
Illinois, USA : IKF
Promoters Ron Hill, James Hill, and Brian Thompson (Right)
will be hosting The
Standoff III, this Saturday October 22nd at the IBEW 176
Banquet Hall in Joliet, Illinois. This amazing Trio has put together
another awesome fight card. The
Standoff III, "Vendetta"
will feature 2005
IKF North
American Champion James Bleau vs Tim Riordan.
At this years 2005
IKF North
American Tournament at the Wyndham Palace Resort in Orlando
Florida this past August, James Bleau (Left, 8-4/0) of
Marquette, Michigan, USA (Trained by Kak Koonala) took home the
NAC Muay Thai Welterweight title when he defeated Phil Leier from
Mike Miles club in Canada in the Welterweight Division.
This Division was one of the strongest of the Tournament
with 8 fighters. This meant that the Champion would need to defeat three
straight opponents in two days to win the Title, which is what Bleau
did. In the opening bracket on Saturday morning Bleau defeated Liajdub
Vang of Des Moines, Iowa, USA by unanimous decision 30-26 on all 3
judges cards. Later Saturday afternoon Bleau faced and defeated 2004
NAC Champion Nathan Smith of Modesto, California, USA
by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards. Smith is trained by Gene
Fields, the trainer of K-1 Champion Carter Williams.
In the final, Bleau faced off against a tough Phil
Leier of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and in a great fight between the
two, Bleau came out on top by unanimous decision, 29-28 on all 3
judges cards.
Now Bleau will take on a very tough opponent, Tim
Riordan (Left) from Team Lucky Strike. Riordan
didn't make it to the NAC Tournament but will look to take on the best
he's ever met in Bleau.
Riordan last appearance on an IKF
event was earlier this year in Rockford, Illinois, USA on May 6th. At
that event he defeated Alex May of Functional Martial Arts
Academy in Madison, Wisconsin, USA by TKO at 1:26 of round 1. It was May's
debut fight and Riordan 7th boosting his fight record to 4-3 with
the win. Riordan is currently ranked 15th
in the Super Welterweight Amateur Muay Thai world ratings.
The
Standoff III card will also feature additional fighters
from gyms across the Midwest including: Peoria Athletic Club, Team
Toro, Olympic Arena, Gorak's Kenpo, Tiger Pitt Gym, Nihlan's Muay Thai,

well. Each and every fighter came to do just that….. FIGHT!
As if great fights weren't enough, the audience was
also treated to a live performance by Papermill recording artist, “True”.
This was a fantastic “touch” to a great night of IKF
fights. Here are the results:
- Full Contact Rules, Super Middleweight:
“Cool Hands” Luke Malloy,
2-0-0, (Olymic Arena, Mantino IL) vs. Steve
Byer, 0-0-0, (Independent, Chicago IL).
Malloy dominated this bout with constant pressure,
connecting with hard head kicks and punches. Byer received
a knockdown and 2 standing 8 counts from IKF
referee, Dave Rogers. At 1:12 into round 3, “Cool Hands”
Luke Malloy won by TKO after delivering a hard kick to Beyer’s
midsection.
- International Rules, Super Welterweight
Matine Silverwolf, 0-1-0, (Olymic
Arena, Manteno IL) vs Adam “Ant”
Lynn, 0-0-0, (HCX Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL)
There seemed to be some confusion to the rule style in this bout
when Lynn executed a throw and attempted a flying knee. IKF
Referee, Dave Rogers, straightened matters out but Lynn
had a hard time sticking to the rules causing him to receive two
separate point deductions for catching kicks. In Round Three, Silverwolf
came out to stop Lynn and did just that with a devastating
body shot. Lynn staggered back and took a knee. IKF
Referee, Dave Rogers, stopped the bout at 23 seconds into
round three. Silverwolf winner by TKO.
- Muay Thai Rules, Super Middleweight
Matt Wagner, 0-0-0, (Nihlan’s
Muay Thai, Champagne IL) vs. Andy
Voelz, 0-0-0, (Top Notch Gym, Oak Terrace IL)
Voelz seemed very confident, landing several straight,
direct shots leading IKF
Referee, Dave Rogers, to give Wagner a standing 8 in
the first round. Voelz’s pressure gave him the edge in
this bout. Voelz wins by unanimous decision with all three judges
scoring it the same: 30-26
- Muay Thai Rules, Junior Bantam Weight
Miguel “Too Slick” Cruz,
0-0-0, (Team Toro, Chicago IL) vs. Anthony
“Ant Dog” Fearn, 0-2-0, (HCX Mixed
Martial Arts, Joliet IL)
Both young athletes came out poised with serious skill. These
young fighters fought like adults, not 13 year old boys!
Incredible job by both, making it a very difficult job for the
judges. In the end, Cruz edged out Fearn to win by split
decision, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.
- International Rules, Junior Lightweight
“Ruthless” Rob Menigoz,
2-0-0, (Olympic Arena, Manteno IL) vs. Kyle
Dietrich, 1-0-0, (Pekin Martial Arts Academy, Pekin
IL)
Dietrich deserves credit for a lot of heart in this bout.
He has a “never say die” attitude! Menigoz was
able to land head kicks and powerful bombs. Dietrich seemed
to weather the storm at first, but began to tire from Menigoz’s
thunder. By the end of the bout, Dietrich had received two
standing 8 counts in Round One, two standing 8 counts in Round
Two, and one standing 8 count in Round Three. “Ruthless”
Rob Menigoz won by unanimous decision with all three judges
scoring it 30-22.
- Muay Thai Rules, Super Lightweight
Jonathon “El Matador”
Villanueva, 1-0-0, (Team Toro, Chicago IL) vs. Jon
Llaguno, 0-0-0, (Combat Do, Chicago IL).
This was a classic Muay Thai fight with both fighters skilled in
the clinch and taking turns controlling the fight, which made it a
crowd pleaser with many on their feet for the entire bout. This
fight was hard to judge, as it was extremely action packed. At the
final bell, Llaguno pulled it out to win by split decision,
29-28, 28-29, 29-28.
- Muay Thai Rules, Super Lightweight
Ryan “The Lion” Tyson,
2-0-0, (Olympic Arena, Manteno IL) vs. Eddie
Ray Cox, 1-1-0, (HCX Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL)
This was another hard to judge fight and one that kept IKF
Referee, Dave Rogers, on his toes. Tyson and Cox
seemed to be pretty equal in skills. Both countered attacks good,
as well as knew when to turn it up. All three rounds were 10-9
scores. In the end, the scorecards agreed Tyson was more
effective in the clinch giving him the unanimous decision, 29-28,
29-28, 30-27.
- Muay Thai Rules, Super Middleweight
Mohammed Elhafy, 0-0-0, (Nihlan’s
Muay Thai, Champagne IL) vs. Paul
Schroyer, 0-0-0, (Tiger Pit Muay Thai, Toledo OH)
This fight was yet another action filled fight! Schroyer
was the first of the night to give the crowd “blood”
after taking shots from Elhafy but it only motivated him to
turn up the heat and force Elhafy into a standing 8. All
three judges scored this bout 30-26, Schroyer taking home
the win.
- Muay Thai Rules, Light Middleweight
Brian “Lights Out” Robertson,
0-1-0, (Team Toro, Chicago IL) vs. Benjamin
Culbertson, 0-0-0, (Muay Thai Kickboxing Academy,
Dixon IL)
Robertson’s demonstration of knees in the clinch along
with his incredible timing of cut kicks definitely gave him the
edge on this bout. Culbertson definitely deserves credit
also as this was another action packed bout with a lot of evenly
exchanged punches! Robertson wins by split decision, 30-27,
30-27, 28-29.
- Muay Thai Rules, Super Middleweight
Edward Erickson, 1-0-0, (MHP
Gym, Iron Mountain MI) vs. Ben
Fisher, 1-0-0, (Tiger Pit Muay Thai, Toledo OH)
This fight was also a crowd pleaser with a lot of technique and
“focus”. Erickson had two opponents on his hands
for this bout; one fighter across the ring and one in his corner.
The action in this bout was stopped twice by Referee Dave
Rogers, and a point was deducted from Erickson’s
score for the behavior of his trainer. Even with the point
deduction, Erickson came out ahead with a majority
decision, 29-27, 29-27, 28-28.
- Muay Thai Rules, Cruiserweight
Bryan “Smashing Machine” Kovar,
1-1-0, (Team Toro, Chicago IL) vs. Evan
“The Monster” Mitchell, 0-2-0, (HCX Mixed
Martial Arts, Joliet IL)
A quick note on this bout: Justin Abatie (Pekin Martial
Arts Academy) was scheduled to fight this match but was hit by
a drunken driver the evening before sustaining minor injuries that
prevented him from fighting. HCX Mixed Martial Arts
teammate, Evan Mitchell, with less then 24 hours notice of
this bout, stepped in and completely gained the respect of
everyone in the crowd! Brian Kovar’s fight name is “Smashing
Machine” for being known to smash whatever is in front of
him, however Mitchell was quick to show what he was made
of. Kovar repeatedly pounded Mitchell’s legs in
all three rounds and every perfectly timed cut kick sent Mitchell
to one knee but Mitchell was right back up. Mitchell
has the heart of a lion! Not to take anything away from Kovar’s
awesome skill and win, but we did want to make note of Mitchell’s
heart. He will definitely be one to watch at future events! Kovar
won by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
- MAIN EVENT: International Rules, Super Middleweight
Dan “Mighty” Masella,
4-1-0, (Dragonstyle Martial Fitness, Hillside IL) vs. Stan
“Roughneck” Rousonelos, II, 8-5-0, (HCX
Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL)
Home town favorite, Rousonelos, gave Joliet just what they
wanted to see! Marsella received a point deduction for a
knee to the groin thrown while Referee Dave Rogers was
pulling the fighters apart during a break in the action. (It
was learned after the fights that Marsella thought knees were
allowed in IR.) Marsella also received a standing 8
count after a barrage of strikes from Rousonelos. Rousonelos
won by unanimous decision, 29-26, 28-27, 28-27.
